Learn about the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC)
Would You Like to Turn a $500 Donation into a $4,500 Gift to PAS?
*Open to most Pennsylvania residents with a $5,000+ tax burden*
The EITC program is a way to designate your Pennsylvania tax dollars directly to Penn Alexander. The money for this state EITC program is already set aside by the legislature up to a certain cap each year. It's first-come, first-served to claim the tax credit for your preferred 'educational improvement organization' aka school (there are separate allocations for private, public, and preschools).
Parents can make a donation up to the amount they pay in PA income tax, and receive 90% of that donation refunded as a tax credit. PAS receives 90% of the donation after the Special Purpose Entity (SPE) fees. The minimum contribution is $5,000. A $5,000 payment, for example, translates into a $500 donation and a $4,500 tax credit to you. That $4,500 tax payment goes to Penn Alexander. Any individual (parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors) can participate through our partner, Friends of Education.
Step 1: Donor fills out a pledge form to get on the Friends of Education waitlist (the SPE). Friends of Education accepts pledges in the Fall and Spring. They have an allocation of credits that fill up by mid-November. They will let you know when a donor spot becomes available.
Step 2: Once a spot is available, donor has 60 days to make the donation directly to Friends of Education. There are fewer spots in the Spring. If you don’t receive a Spring spot, you will definitely get a Fall spot. There is no difference between Spring and Fall - just when your donation payment is due.
Step 3: Donor applies the credit to their taxes when they file their tax return in the next year. A two year commitment to the program is required.
