Message from the Principal

Dear PAS Families,

Short week coming up BUT a lot is happening!

  • 12:09pm dismissal tomorrow through Wednesday.  Please plan for pick up.  There are no afterschool clubs on these days.   Teachers will need to prepare for parent-teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday is a 12:09pm dismissal for both staff and students, supporting everyone who needs to travel or prepare for the holiday.

  • Moving forward all students need to clear the school yard after dismissal unless they are with a parent as there is no supervision at this time.  The yard reopens to the public at 4:30pm.

  • Calling Parent Musicians! We are looking for a drummer to play a selection with the choir for our Winter concert on the evening on December 16th. If you might be free and interested, please email Ms. Zimmer at ezimmer@philasd.org

  • Lifetouch picture packages are coming home on Monday. You can still order pictures at  mylifetouch.com or get your FREE Digital SmileSafe card. More about the Smilesafe program here.  Picture Retake is December 11.  Please return your photo package to Ann Kreidle in the office if you would like a retake.

  • Please welcome Bilingual Counseling Assistant Ms. Rebecca Fan! She will be at our school every Tuesday.  She is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese.   Stop by her Chat and Chew every Tuesday at 8:40am in the lunchroom or email her at rfan@philasd.org to get connected to her support.

  • Our Scholastic Book Fair will be ending on Wednesday morning. We will have family hours on Monday and Tuesday afterschool until 3pm.  If you would like your child to shop at the fair with their class, there is an option to set up an eWallet.  Students can also create wishlists and bring those home to show you what they would like to purchase.  More volunteers are also needed to staff the bookfair.  Volunteers will receive a free book up to $10. Sign up HERE.

  • Our next Dress Down Day is Wednesday, benefiting the University City Hospitality Coalition (UCHC), which provides meals, mailboxes, as well as medical, and legal services to neighbors in need. We’ve partnered with UCHC for 24 years!

  •  A Penn team partnering with PAS to study how families of K-5 students experience using the district digital platforms will be here this week to survey parents.
    • Parents and guardians of K-5 students who take our quick survey will receive a $25 Amazon gift card
    • The survey can be found at this link: bit.ly/DigitalParentSurvey
    • The survey should take about 15-20 minutes and is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese (language settings can be switched in the top right corner)
    • After completing the survey, you may be invited to participate in interviews or focus groups that could earn you additional gift card compensation.
    • if you have any questions, email Dr. Tess Bernhard at tmbern@upenn.edu

We look forward to seeing everyone for parent-teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Principal Overton

Reminders & Resources
Don't Forget!
  • School Gear is for sale. The HSA is currently selling PAS-branded (and uniform compliant) sweatpants, short sleeve T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, hoodie sweatshirts, and hats. They make a great gift! Purchase HERE.
From the HSA...Giving Tuesday is Here!

The giving season has arrived, and so has the HSA's biggest fundraising appeal of the year. We have launched 2025-26 Giving Tuesday fundraising with a goal of $75,000 for the general fund. Your gifts help support art teacher funding, building and classroom supplies, teacher appreciation efforts, and so much more!

We strive for 100% family participation, with gifts in the past ranging from $1 to $10,000, and once again will be having a Grade Participation Competition. The grade with the highest participation for making contributions of any amount will receive extra recess! Donate HERE.

Already donated through an employer such as Penn's Way, a DAF, or foundation? Please let the HSA know HERE so we can count your gift towards our goal. Thank you!
